5 Secrets to the Perfect Lip Paint Application

The biggest complaint from cheer and dance parents is that their child's lip stick has stained their uniform or costume. Performance apparel is one of the biggest investments we make to participate in cheer and dance.  Lipsticks are typically manufactured with moisturizing ingredients and heavy pigments which feel glossy on the lips and transfer easily onto clothing.  If you love lipstick, pigment transfer is a big problem.

A lot of athletes have switched from lipsticks to lip paints and lip stains to eliminate this problem, but these product do not completely eliminate the transfer of color onto the uniform if they are not applied correctly.

There are two types of lip products available, the first are lip paints which are manufactured with ingredients that allow the pigments to dry onto the lips and the second are water based lip stains where the color is absorbed into the lip leaving no heavy pigments on the lips.

In both cases, there are pigments in each product  making it almost impossible to eliminate transfer of color onto clothing or skin without taking some precautions.

Long Lasting Lip Paint

Here are 5 Secrets to the Perfect Lip Paint Application:

  1. Exfoliate the lips to remove all dryness before application for a smooth flawless finish so the product does not stain the dry skin which makes for an uneven application.

  2. Do not apply lip stain like a lip gloss, this will leave heavy pigment on the lips, create lip paint bleed around your lip line and cause excessive dryness on the lips.

  3. Remove excessive lip stain from the applicator prior to applying the lip stain to the lip and then outline the lip line carefully with the pointed tip of the applicator, then apply light even coats letting each coat completely dry between applications.

  4. After you reach the desired color, blot the lips with a tissue to remove excess pigment from the lips and dry completely.  Test for transfer with a tissue.

  5. For extra assurance, apply Pretty Girl Cosmetics Lip Seal prior to applying your lip gloss for complete protection.

For a true lip stain, you can purchase a water based formula which adds a stain to the lips without heavy pigments or glosses.  The stain soaks into to the lips and adds a hint of color.  The pigment is much lighter with a lip stain but there will be much less of a risk to transfer a lip stain once it absorbs completely into the lips.  You can layer the stain until you achieve the desired color, blot and apply a gloss just like the lip paint.

For further protection, always use our Lip Seal with your favorite lip stick or lip product for full smudge proof protection.
